Shoebox appeal 2016

28th November 2016

Successful Christmas appeal at St Giles

St Giles Pontefract and St Mary’s Chequerfield have collected 101 shoeboxes for the charity Operation Christmas Child. Diane Williams, the organiser at St Giles, said that the response from the congregations and supporters has been fantastic this year, and we will be aiming even higher next year. Each box is a blessing for a child at Christmas time ‘.
Operation Christmas Child is part of the Samaritans Purse UK charity, who say that a small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. It can be a part of changing children’s lives, all over the world, through the power of a simple gift in Jesus’ name.

Samaritan’s Purse UK is an international relief and development organisation that works through local churches to proclaim and demonstrate the love of God amongst communities in need (in countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia) across the world.
But we do more than just send shoeboxes overseas. We respond in a distinctly Christian way to issues facing people in the places where we work: issues like water and sanitation and sustainable livelihoods along with disasters and emergencies.
